Students at Valley Road School collaborated with English learning students in grades 1-5 who recently moved to the United States from Guatemala. They are native Spanish speakers who are learning basic English. Ms. Hernandez is the Newcomer ESOL teacher at Hasty Elementary School in Canton, GA. She wanted her students to have the opportunity to practice speaking in English to other students. Ms. Czarnecki, the computer teacher at Valley Road School, thought this would be a great opportunity to provide VRS students a chance to practice speaking in Spanish. The classes engaged in basic conversation, tested one another on the translation of numbers and engaged in a Q&A session.
