Uptown Linden Inc., the city of Linden’s special improvement district committee, is proud to announce the grand opening of it’s new headquarters located at 228 N. Wood Avenue. Linden’s special improvement district was established in the early 1990’s. Special improvement districts (SID) across the state are defined areas that property owners pay an additional tax in order to fund projects within the district’s boundaries. The services provided by SIDs are supplemental to those already provided by the municipality.
Linden’s special improvement district committee has purchase and installed awnings on most of the store fronts, regularly buys plants, banners and hosts family-friendly events throughout the year. Their responsibilities also encompass marketing and recruitment.
Linden’s SID committee never had a “home” of its own. The committee holds it’s monthly meetings, which are open to the public, in a conference room at city hall. Michael Bono, director of Uptown Linden Inc. said, “Most merchants don’t really know who we are and what we do. Having a street level presence in the center of the district will give us the opportunity to serve them on a whole new level.”
Transit village designation, grant awards and committee membership are a few of the catalysts responsible for the re branding and expansion. According to Bryan Tomko, co-director, “We’re most excited to offer our merchants real, tangible help in the way of grants, marketing and deliverables.”
The grand opening celebration was Friday May, 2nd and was open to the public at the new location.
