“Complete Streets Excellence Award” for Stuyvesant Ave. Project

The Township of Union was recently awarded a Complete Streets Excellence Award by the state Department of Transportation Complete Streets program for the Stuyvesant Avenue Project that revitalized the Union Center downtown area.
Union was named among six entities that “demonstrated commitment to advancing complete streets” in their communities as part of the 2019 Complete Streets Excellence Awards.
The awards, hosted on October 24, 2019 by the Alan M. Voorhees Transportation Center at Rutgers University in partnership with the New Jersey Department of Transportation, recognize communities that are working for “complete streets” design projects and policies that demonstrate excellence in Complete Streets policy development or implementation.
“We are very proud of the level of sound and appropriately scaled planning and development that the town is undergoing, stated Mayor Michele Delisfort.
“In addition to the physical improvements, our Center has added economic growth from existing property owners and new investors.” Delisfort added. “I’m pleased to see that we have created an attractive and pedestrian friendly interactive environment for our residents, patrons, businesses and stakeholders.”
“We’re thrilled that the Township received a Complete Streets Excellence award,” Economic Development Director Fatimah Raymond said. “Our Stuyvesant Avenue project helped create a safer, more user-friendly and vibrant downtown.”
The other 2019 awards went to Jersey City, New Brunswick Ciclovia, Middlesex Greenway, The Circuit Trails and the Ben Franklin Bridge South Walkway Bicycle and Pedestrian Ramp.
