September 2018 Youth Programs

Weekly Programs

Mondays: Construction Zone at 3:30 p.m.
All ages – No registration required
Learn, play, and build with us every Monday using Legos, K’Nex, and more! Please note that UPL is closed for Labor Day on 9/3, so there will be no program that day.

Mondays 9/10 & 9/24: Read to Waldi at 4:15 p.m.
Ages 5+ – Registration required
Bring along a book or two and practice reading aloud to Waldi, our visiting therapy dog! Program takes place on alternate weeks.

Wednesdays: Tiny Tots (Storytime) at 10:30 a.m.
Birth – 2 years – No registration required
Spend this special time with baby singing songs & rhymes, listening to stories, followed by free play & socialization.

Thursdays: Alphabet Soup (Storytime) at 4:00 p.m.
Ages 4 – 6 – Registration required for 9/6 and 9/27
Jump into reading with UPL! We explore phonics, letter recognition, and numbers all while reading fun stories, singing songs, and making new friends! Please note that the 9/6 session will feature a back-to-school craft following storytime, and the 9/27 session will be Stretchy Stories, a yoga and movement-based storytime.

Fridays: Toddler Tales (Storytime) at 10:30 a.m.
2 – 4 years – No registration required
Enjoy stories, singing, and movement, following a different theme each week! The 9/21 session will focus on music & movement.

Tuesday 9/4: Back to School Crafternoon at 4:30 p.m.
Ages 5+ – Registration required
Create a duct tape pencil case/folder pocket, plus emoji magnets for your locker!

Friday 9/7: Teen Cuisine: National Waffle Week at 3:30 p.m.
Ages 13+ – Registration required
Beat those back-to-school blues and celebrate National Waffle Week with us! Stop by after school and enjoy some fresh waffles with all the toppings you want!

Thursday 9/13: Bedtime Storytime at 7:00 p.m.
All ages – Registration required
Join us for a special bedtime storytime to celebrate fall! Don’t forget to wear your coziest PJs.

Friday 9/14: Teen Advisory Board Meeting at 3:30 p.m.
Ages 13+ – Registration required
Help us make Union Public Library the place for you! Let us know what programs and events you want to see at the library. Recommend books, movies, and music you want to see on the shelves, and earn community service hours by coming to TAB meetings and participating in programs!

Saturday 9/15: Drop-in Craft at 11:30 a.m.
All ages – No registration required
Create your own cactus rock to plant on your desk or mantle!

Saturday 9/15: ScienceTellers at 1:00 p.m.
Ages 4 – 12 – Registration required
With the help of audience volunteers, the ScienceTellers crew conduct science experiments to bring an exciting story to life! Join us for a Wild West whodunit: The Mystery of the Golden Piano!

Wednesday 9/19: Pirate Palooza at 4:00 p.m.
Ages 4 – 8 – Registration required
Ahoy, buccaneers! Join yer mateys to celebrate Talk Like a Pirate Day, with jolly fun stories, games, and activities! Pirate dress is encouraged (but not required)!

Friday 9/21: SciFri: DIY Toys at 3:30 p.m.
Ages 8 – 12 – Registration required
Learn about polymers by making homemade silly putty & bouncy balls!

Tuesday 9/25: National Voter Registration Day (All day)
Ages 18+ – No registration required
Register to be able to vote in the November election! Make sure your voice is heard!

Tuesday 9/25: The W.H.O. (We Help Others) Club: Kids’ Edition at 4:30 p.m.
Ages 5+ – No registration required
Interested in making our community a better place? Join us each month for a new service project. This month, we’ll be painting kindness stones!

Wednesday 9/26: ShopRite Kids Cuisine at 4:00 p.m.
Ages 6 – 12 – Registration required
Learn about healthy eating and try some yummy new foods, following a different theme each month! Presented by Megan Hewitt, RD from ShopRite of Union.

Friday 9/28: The W.H.O. (We Help Others) Club: Teen Edition at 3:30 p.m.
Ages 13+ – No registration required
Interested in making our community a better place? Join us each month for a new service project. This month, we’ll be painting kindness stones!

Saturday 9/29: Family Movie: Coco at 12:00 p.m.
All ages – Registration required
Join us for a screening of Coco (Rated PG), in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month! Bring your own lunch and we’ll supply the popcorn and a beverage. Guardians must be present.

Wednesday 9/5: Library Card Sign-up Drop-in Craft & Card Drive from 1:30 p.m.-3:30 p.m.
All ages – No registration required
September is National Library Sign-up Month! Patrons are invited to stop by the library and get a new card or renew an old one. Also, there will be a drop-in craft available. **In order to get a library card, you must be 18 years or older. Please present your photo ID and a piece of mail with your current address. If under the age of 18, a parent/guardian must be present and provide these documents. Also, there is a $2.00 charge to replace a lost card.

Thursday 9/6: Tween Movie: Wonder at 2:45 p.m.
All ages – Registration required
Join us for a screening of Wonder (Rated PG)! We’ll supply the popcorn and a beverage.

Friday 9/7: Wii and Boardgame Fridays at 3:00 p.m.
All ages – Registration required
Join us for an afternoon of friendly competition. We’re breaking out the Wii U and our collection of boardgames. Feel free to bring your own games too!

Monday 9/10: Books and Board Games with your Grandparents at 1:30 p.m.
All ages – Registration required
On this day off school, children of all ages are invited to visit the library with their grandparent(s) to read a story, color a picture, play a game, or just spend quality time together.

Thursday 9/13: Homeschool Hangout at 11:00 a.m.
Ages 10+ – Registration required
Meet, learn, and engage with other local homeschooling families through a variety of fun activities!

Thursday 9/13: Tween DIY at 3:00 p.m.
Ages 9 – 13 – Registration required
We’ll be making coding bracelets, using beads to code our names or special messages! All materials will be provided.

Saturday 9/15: Family Drop-in Story & Craft at 3:00 p.m.
All ages – No registration required
Celebrate Batman Day 2018 with stories and a craft!

Wednesday 9/19: Club Teen: Healthy Eating Class at 6:00 p.m.
Ages 14+ – Registration required

Thursday 9/20: Tween STEM Builders Club at 3:00 p.m.
Ages 9 – 13 – Registration required
Play around with Legos and 3-D magnetic tiles to create amazing shapes and structures!

Thursday 9/27: Tween ‘Make It at Your Library’ at 3:00 p.m.
Ages 9 – 13 – Registration required
Create a cool yarn initial letter, perfect for decorating your room or desk!
