Two Union County residents took home medals at the May 6, 2018 Susan G. Komen North Jersey Race for the Cure. Mountainside resident Ken Wigg, 48, crossed the finish line with a time of 21 minutes and 33 seconds, winning the third place Bronze Medal in the Men’s Division for the USTAF Certified Timed 5K Run.
Sherry Peterson-Keyt, 52, of New Providence took home the first place Gold Medal in the Survivor’s Division after crossing the finish line in 24 minutes and 45 seconds. This was Peterson-Keyt’s fifth Komen North Jersey Race for the Cure medal; she also took first place in the Survivor’s Division in 2012, 2013 and 2015; and came in second in 2014.
More than 2500 people came out to Liberty State Park for the event which has raised more than $600,000 to date for the fight against breast cancer (fundraising is ongoing through June 30th).
