Menorah Lighting
The Union County Torah Center-Chabad is pleased to announce that there will be a Menorah Lighting ceremony in Cranford across from the municipal building near the gazebo on Springfield Ave., on Wednesday, December 21, at 6:30 p.m. Rabbi Paul Kerbel of Temple Beth-El in Cranford & Rabbi Levi Block of the Union County Torah Center-Chabad will both give Chanukah remarks to the attendees.
For the first time in Cranford there will be a “Gelt Drop” where a fireman will rain down chocolate gelt from high atop the fire ladder while children (and adults) have the opportunity to collect as much chocolate gelt as they can. There will also be LED light up dreidel and menorah necklaces for all children in attendance, and of course delicious Chanukah donuts.
Chanukah, the Festival of Lights, begins on Sunday, December 18 at sundown and continues through Sunday, December 25. Chanukah focuses largely on the meaning of civil liberties and religious freedom and has served as a source of this message for nearly twenty-two centuries. The Menorah contains a universal message for all people of all faiths – a message of freedom, of good over evil, of light over darkness.
