The Mayor and Committee of the Township of Union congratulated former Battalion Chief Michael Scanio on his promotion to Deputy Chief of the Union Fire Department on Tuesday September 27th. Scanio has been with the Union Fire Department for over 20 years. During his tenure with the Fire Department, he has received multiple accolades for his public service, earning commendations and awards for his actions in the line of duty including two Meritorious Awards, one Commendation Award and one Unit Award. He became Lieutenant in January 2004, Captain in October 2008, and Provisional Battalion Chief in March 2013. Upon demonstrating the necessary fortitude, skills and strengths required of the position, he was assigned permanent appointment of Administrative Fire Battalion Chief in September 2013.
