Tree Planting at Madison Recreation Complex
Submitted by Cathy Gotliffe
On Sunday, April 11, five Thursday Morning Club (TMC) members joined the Friends of Madison Shade Trees, Inc., and local Girl Scouts to help plant 250 bare root trees at the Madison Recreation Complex. The goal of the project is to create a tree buffer from Route 24. The TMC assisted with this project to honor their long history with both Friends of Madison Shade Tree, Inc. and the Shade Tree Management Board. The Shade Tree Management Board was first established by the Thursday Morning Club in 1907. This year, the Thursday Morning Club is celebrating their 125th Anniversary.
Organized in 1896, the Club is a member of both the New Jersey State and General Federation of Women’s Clubs. The club offers programs and services to support the community, and its Community House provides a home for a number of sports, recreation and civic groups. The Thursday Morning Club is a non-profit service organization with over 260 members whose goal is to provide services for the town of Madison and neighboring communities.
