Township of Union Recognizes Officers During National Police Week

The Township of Union Celebrated National

Police Week on May 19th with a commemorative

ceremony that included several officers from

UPD being recognized for their bravery,

dedication and sacrifice.
“The example you set- as officers and as civilians- makes better citizens of all of us and is the glue that binds our community together,” said Manuel Figueiredo when addressing the officers and their families.
The following awards were conferred:

• Dispatcher of the Year:
– Aliza Todmann
• Command Citation:
Police Officer Adam Jovic
• Command Citation:
– Police Officer Chris Lensi
• Command Citation:
– Police Officer Fernando Trejo
• Command Citation:
– Police Officer Carthaniel Crum
• Command Citation:
– Police Officer John Oliviera
• Command Citation:
– Police Officer Robert Leamy
Present at the ceremony were municipal, county and state officials who congratulated the officers and remarked on the significance of celebrating their accomplishments.
In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15th as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15th falls, as National Police Week. Established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1962, National Police Week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.
