Tips For Raising Resilient Children

Helpful information for parents is available in a newly released Westfield Public School video entitled “Resilient School Age Children – Who Are They and How Did They Get There?”
Based on recent presentations to parents by Westfield Director of Counseling, Maureen Mazzarese, who has dedicated her entire 29-year career to student wellness, the video explores ways to avoid unnecessary anxiety or stress in school age children and provides helpful tips for parents.
Covered in the presentation are skills and coping mechanisms to manage emotions, to become aware of strengths and assets, to problem solve, to be resourceful and reach out to others, and to develop a sense of personal agency

Superintendent of Schools, Margaret Dolan, remarked, “I attended one of Ms. Mazzarese’s presentations to parents this fall. Her experience, dedication and helpful advice and that of her entire counseling staff have proven to be invaluable to students and families in the Westfield Public Schools.” “One of our district’s objectives in our five year strategic plan is to encourage coping skills and resiliency, and workshops like these tie in well with what we are advocating within our classrooms,” added Dr. Dolan.
