The Scotch Plains-Fanwood Memorial Day Parade Committee

Dear Veterans and Families:

Memorial Day pays tribute to American military personnel of all wars who made the ultimate sacrifice by giving their lives in service to our country. The Scotch Plains-Fanwood Memorial Day Parade Committee will sponsor several events in observance of Memorial Day.

Memorial Day Concert (Sunday, May 28)
The sixth annual Memorial Day Concert, entitled A Tribute to Fallen Heroes, will take place at the Alan Augustine Village Green on Park Avenue, adjacent to the Scotch Plains Municipal Building, beginning at 6:30 p.m. The Full Count Big Band will play patriotic tunes and traditional marches. The program will include the reading of letters written by members of the U.S. military to their loved ones back home.

Memorial Day Ceremonies (Monday, May 29)
There will be a memorial service and presentation of wreaths at 9:00 a.m. at the Fanwood Memorial Library at 5 Forest Road. A memorial tribute and laying of wreaths will take place at 10:00 a.m. at the gazebo on Park Avenue and Front Street in downtown Scotch Plains.

Memorial Day Parade (Monday, May 29)
The theme for this year’s Parade is They Gave Their Tomorrows… For Our Todays.  Starting at 10:45 a.m. at the gazebo in downtown Scotch Plains, the Parade will proceed along Park Avenue, move onto Martine Avenue into downtown Fanwood and end at La Grande Park in Fanwood.
The 2017 Parade Grand Marshals are Fanwood residents Alan Ebersole (posthumously), Ed Miller and Joe Nagy. Members of the Greatest Generation, they proudly served their country in the U.S. Armed Forces during World War II. The Parade Committee thanks them for their dedication, commitment and sacrifice in service to our great nation.
In cooperation with the Parade Committee, Mayor Colleen Mahr of Fanwood and Mayor Al Smith of Scotch Plains invite to you to attend the Memorial Day events. We hope that you will be able to join us as we honor those who gave their lives in service to America.

Sincerely,
Ralph Checchio
