There’s never been a better time to have a Long Hill Township Library card. If you don’t have one, and you are a Long Hill Township resident, you can request a library card online at  https://tinyurl.com/LHTLibraryCard

During the past several weeks the Long Hill Library has been working diligently to expand our online resources for students, adults, children, teens, and older adults, so that people  of all ages can continue to learn, build skills, stay entertained, and remain mentally and physically active during this unprecedented time.

The library offers streaming entertainment through Hoopla and Kanopy.  Hoopla provides movies, music, audiobooks, ebooks, comics and TV shows to enjoy on computers, tablets, phones or TVs and has hundreds of thousands of titles to choose from, with more being added daily.  Kanopy showcases more than 30,000 of the world’s best films, including award-winning documentaries, rare and hard-to-find titles, film festival favorites, indie and classic films, and world cinema with collections from Kino Lorber, Music Box Films, Samuel Goldwyn, The Orchard, The Great Courses, PBS and thousands of independent filmmakers.

As people shelter in place, demand for our online resources has risen dramatically. The only way to access our digital collections is with a library card. Library card holders can take full advantage of online eBooks, magazines, apps, music, movies and more. Pass it on!

Long Hill Library Delivers to your Home…Digitally

The Long Hill Township Library wants all Long Hill Township residents to know that the library is here to support you while you are at home. Even though the library building is closed we are still working to provide you with books, newspapers, movies, etc. Usually we do that in person but since that’s not possible, we’ve added more digital products to bring these resources directly into your homes.

Long Hill Township Library  patrons now have access to 700,000-plus movies, TV shows, eBooks, audiobooks, comics and music  through our new partnerships with Kanopy and Hoopla.

Kanopy, a video-streaming platform, and Hoopla, a web and mobile library media streaming platform, offer content 24/7 with no waiting lists, fees or advertisements, and can be accessed with a valid library card.

Long Hill Township Library patrons typically borrow over 2,000 DVDs per month. Since patrons cannot get to the library to check-out DVDs, the library has brought movies to the patrons. We’ve added Kanopy and Hoopla because downloadable and streaming media offer patrons immediate access to a broad range of educational and entertainment content,   library director Pierre Rosen said.

Kanopy specializes in video streaming, while Hoopla offers movies, music, audiobooks, eBooks, comics and TV shows.

Both platforms can be accessed by downloading the Kanopy and Hoopla apps on desktop and mobile devices. Kanopy and Hoopla apps are supported on iOS, Android, AppleTV, Chromecast, FireTV, Roku, AndroidTV, Google Play and Amazon. These platforms give Long Hill Township patrons access to new digital content anytime, anywhere.

If you have any questions about how to access any of our offerings, need to have your PIN reset, would like to request a library card, etc…Please email the library at librarians@lhtlibrary.mainlib.org and a member of the library staff will contact you.

The Monday Night Book Club is Back…Online.

The Mountains Sing by Nguyễn Phan Quế Mai’ is available now in eBook & eAudio on Hoopla. Free with your library card.

With the epic sweep of Min Jin Lee’s Pachinko, The Mountains Sing tells an enveloping, multigenerational tale of the Trần family, set against the backdrop of the Việt Nam War.

Trần Diệu Lan, who was born in 1920, was forced to flee her family farm with her six children during the Land Reform as the Communist government rose in the North. Years later in Hà Nội, her young granddaughter, Hương, comes of age as her parents and uncles head off down the Hồ Chí Minh Trail to fight in a conflict that tore not just her beloved country, but her family apart.

Vivid, gripping, and steeped in the language and traditions of Việt Nam, The Mountains Sing brings to life the human costs of this conflict from the point of view of the Vietnamese people themselves, while showing us the true power of kindness and hope.

The library is open online 24/7. If you have any questions you can email the library at librarians@lhtlibrary.mainlibe.org or call  (848) 209-1027 on Monday thru Friday from 11am til 2pm.
