During the last week of October, the Linden Community came together for a night of learning. Linden Schools #4 and #10 joined together to host “Super Family Literacy Night.” This Superhero themed event was led by Instructional Coach, Suzanne Olivero. Over thirty teachers and staff members facilitated the activities. Families entered the Superhero Café to enjoy a light supper provided by the Linden Education Association and Pomptonian. From there they traveled to Readville, where they participated in a Read Aloud, featuring the story, “Super Dex.” Family Reading Pledges were discussed and then composed by families. They promised to establish an at-home daily reading routine. Children also created Superhero capes. At the Reading Headquarters families participated in activities such as Comprehension Crusaders, Smack Attack, Super Words, and I Need a Hero; activities which concentrated on the essential components of Literacy. The Physical Education teacher, Fran Kreisberg demonstrated how Physical Literacy is demonstrated in P.E. classes. The night concluded with a raffle of leveled book baskets and Barnes and Noble gift cards. Parents and their children left the event with a deeper understanding of the simple ways they can support the core skills of literacy.
