Summit Speech School
The Summit Foundation recently awarded $45,000 to Summit Speech School to support the School’s Parent Infant Program. The Parent Infant Program provides early intervention to babies and toddlers who are diagnosed with a hearing loss.
The Summit Foundation is a community foundation that fosters philanthropy in the Summit, NJ area by identifying local needs and offering donors flexible ways to make a difference in the lives of their neighbors. During the past 10 years, SAPF has awarded more than $4.7 million in grants to 117 nonprofit agencies. The Foundation makes grants to local nonprofits in areas such as education, health care, the arts, and human services. SAPF has been a regular supporter of Summit Speech School, awarding grants that have supported the Parent Infant Program as well as capital projects such as a roof replacement.
About Summit Speech School
Summit Speech School was founded in 1967 by Junior League of Summit member May S. Gold, who wanted to teach deaf and hard of hearing children to listen and talk. The School has grown over the years and currently consists of the Parent Infant Program, a Preschool, an Itinerant Mainstream Support Program and an Audiology Center that provides pediatric audiology services to families as well as educational audiology services to school districts. Through its four programs, the School serves about 300 children annually. Summit Speech School works with families and school districts to develop children’s listening, speech and language skills, thus fostering communication, education, socialization and self-advocacy.
