Summit High School Sailing Team
Hats off to Summit High School sailors Lauren Murray, Emma Gumny, Dara Greengrass, Grace Penque, Michael Creel and Brady Parkes for battling through two really tough days at the New Jersey Fall Championship Regatta at Toms River Yacht Club over the October 7th weekend.
Saturday started with rain and zero wind. After a 90-minute postponement, and in a matter of minutes, zero wind turned into 25 knots of wind. In difficult, constantly changing conditions, our Summit sailors had a solid day and put themselves into qualifying position. Brady Parkes and Michael Creel capped off day 1 with a pair of 6th place finishes. On Sunday, the wind was howling from the get go at a steady 20-25 knots. The fleet waited out a 4.5-hour postponement because the conditions were just too severe. Racing got started shortly after 1 p.m.
Our SHS Sailors raced hard and made us proud. The team finished the weekend only 3 points from qualifying to advance to the Mid-Atlantic Regionals in Buffalo.
Great sailing, Hilltoppers
