Summit Receives Pedestrian Safety Grant
The Summit Police Department and City of Summit Engineering Division has been awarded a pedestrian safety grant in the amount of $15,000 from the New Jersey Department of Transportation to be used to help reduce pedestrian-related motor vehicle crashes.
Monies from the grant will be applied to enforcement, education and engineering activities in the Central Retail Business District (CRBD) in downtown Summit.
“Pedestrian safety requires a multi-pronged approach that combines smart and inclusive road design, community education, effective enforcement of traffic regulations, and improved road safety,” explains Summit Police Chief Andrew Bartolotti. “Walking is an important mode of transport for people who visit and work in downtown Summit, and it is our responsibility to continually ensure that transport systems in Summit take all road users into account. This generous grant from the NJ Department of Transportation will allow the Summit Police Department
to improve safety in the downtown for pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists.”
