Superintendent June Chang to Leave Position
Submitted by Summit Board of Education
Summit Public Schools Superintendent June Chang notified the Board of Education that he is leaving his position at the end of this school year, effective June 30, 2020. Superintendent Chang’s decision is based on his intent to move out of state and pursue opportunities that accommodate the changing needs of his family.
“It was an honor to serve as Superintendent of Summit Public Schools. I’m committed to keeping the focus on the well-rounded success of our students through the end of my tenure,” said Superintendent Chang.
Under Superintendent Chang’s leadership, Summit Public Schools has been steadfastly committed to cultivating a love of learning among all students. This commitment has driven the advancement of educational opportunities and programs across the entire school system, from universal full-day Kindergarten to the expansion of our AP course offerings at Summit High School. Superintendent Chang’s focus on preparing students for an ever-changing world has led to significant enhancements in the STEAM curriculum, including K-12 Robotics coursework and Coding programs. Additionally, the District has remained at the forefront of educational programming with the implementation of new cycle classes and a state-of-the-art culinary program. Superintendent Chang credits his dedicated and talented administration and staff for their vital contributions to the many accomplishments of the District during his tenure.
“While we are sorry to see him leave our district and the State of New Jersey, we wish him and his wife Sophia all the best and every future success. I would like to offer him our appreciation for his dedication to the district and commitment to education,” said Board President Vanessa Primack.
In a statement on behalf of the Summit Board of Education, Primack says the Board will now undertake one of its most important tasks: Hiring a Superintendent of Schools.
“The Board will engage in a rigorous interview process with highly qualified candidates who demonstrate that they understand and share our community’s vision of and commitment to excellence in education. I look forward to keeping the community informed and engaged in this important endeavor,” said Primack.
