Halloween Safety Tips
The Summit Police Department is issuing guidance received from the New Jersey Department of Health and Center for Disease Control for safe Halloween 2021 celebrations. Recommendations are listed below.
For children who will be trick-or-treating:
- Consider wearing a mask that covers your mouth and nose when trick-or-treating.
- Limit your group to close contacts.
- Limit the number of homes on your route. Do not go inside homes.
- Only accept candy that is in factory sealed packaging.
- Wipe down wrapped candy before opening.
- Always be careful crossing the street, wear reflective clothing and carry a flashlight.
For households:
- Turn off your porch light if you do not want trick-or-treaters.
- Stay outdoors when giving out treats.
- Consider wearing a mask over your mouth and nose when passing out candy.
- Limit close contact with trick-or-treaters.
- Arrange treats so that children may grab and go without accessing a shared bowl.
As a reminder, no one should participate in Halloween activities if they or a household member have a known exposure to COVID-19, and are sick or symptomatic, or have been diagnosed with COVID-19 and has not yet met the criteria for discontinuing isolation.
