Temporary Library Cards for Summit Residents
Access to Online Books, Movies, Newspapers, and More
Summit residents caught without a library card—whether your card recently expired, your family recently moved to Summit, or you never got around to signing up for a card—can request a temporary card (good for 90 days) by calling the Summit Free Public Library, Monday-Friday between the hours of 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., at 908-273-0350, extension 815 (punch in the extension # during the outgoing message to reach the Help Desk). The library is currently closed to patrons indefinitely. We will notify the public when we are allowed to reopen.
There are many online resources you can tap into from your home available through our website—some require a library card in order to access and may require you to download an app. Go to summitlibrary.org and click on the Resources tab at the top of the page. Scroll to Online Courses (Lynda.com); Online Services for Libby/Overdrive (eBooks/eAudiobooks); Hoopla (eBooks, music, movies, TV shows); Flipster (eMagazines–including back issues); and Kanopy streaming services as well as Rosetta Stone for foreign language learning. You can also get free access to The New York Times online as well as Star Ledger and other local newspapers (go to the Resources tab and select Databases). Note, The New York Times needs to be renewed every 3 days, however, there is no limit on the number of times you can renew. We also offer an online arts and craft service, Creativebug, which can also be accessed under Databases.
Kids and teens also have a host of online resources available to them including TumbleBook Library, World Book Online (versions for preschool, kids, and students), and Muzzy foreign language learning. Teens have access to online test prep materials, World Book Encyclopedia Online, Spark Notes, CliffsNotes, eBooks, newspapers and more. All of these resources can be accessed by visiting our website and going to the Kids or Teens tab at the top of the homepage.
