Interactive Map for Hometown Heroes
The City of Summit has developed an interactive map tool for its popular Hometown Heroes program that allows users to locate and view banners online for each of the more than 275 program participants.
The Hometown Heroes program honors Summit residents who have served or are currently serving in the United States Armed Forces with banners that are displayed from Memorial Day through August 15 in downtown Summit. The banners include the names, images, dates of service, and branches of each participating service member. Banners are located on Broad Street, Deforest Avenue, Elm Street, Kent Place Boulevard, Maple Street, Morris Avenue, Springfield Avenue, Summit Avenue, and Union Place.
“The Hometown Heroes Program is a fantastic initiative that continues to honor Summit’s residents who have dedicated their lives to our nation,” explains Summit Mayor Nora Radest. “This interactive map is a useful tool that will allow families and friends to easily find where the banners of their loved ones or friends and neighbors are located.”
The new map functionality provides an overview of all streets where Hometown Heroes banners are hanging and includes search capability by name. A tutorial on how to use the map is also available to assist users.
