Summit High School Class of 1949 Reunion
Submitted by Vic Wintriss
For their 70th Summit High School class reunion, twenty classmates and families gathered at the Grand Summit Hotel for a three-day celebration organized by Summit attorney and classmate Bob Bourne. Classmates exchanged life-story presentations at the Grand Summit followed by a tour of the city narrated by Mayor Nora Radest and a gala lunch at the Canoe Brook Country Club. The tour included a visit to the new Summit Community Center and a drive around the city. Mayor Radest provided the group with data showing how much the Summit economy has grown since 1949 when the population of Summit was 10,000, a movie ticket was 25¢, and a Coke was 5¢. All agreed that Summit was a wonderful place to grow up and is still a great town.
The class of 1949 classmates attending the reunion event included: Ernie Acquaviva, Chris Trapp, John Garno, Beverly York, Hugh Williams, William Close, Jack Callander, Edward Barber, Peter White, Donald Zeiger, Bob Bourne, William Peet, and Vic Wintriss.
