Summit Foundation Awards Grants to Area Nonprofits

The Summit Foundation has awarded more than $305,000 in grants to 17 local nonprofit organizations providing vital food, shelter, education, arts, culture, and health programs and services. Some of the grants include:

$20,000 to Boys & Girls Clubs of Union County for its virtual learning program, which provides a safe, supervised setting for students during school days.

$25,000 to GRACE for fresh food and personal items for its weekly distribution to residents in need.

$15,000 to YWCA of Union County for its PALS program, a creative arts therapy program for children and teens affected by domestic abuse.

$10,000 to ECLC Foundation for renovations to meet social distancing requirements for its PRIDE Program serving adults with developmental disabilities.

$8,500 to Friends of Summit Public Art for operating expenses that support new art installations.

$26,000 to Overlook Foundation for its pilot program to support uninsured and underinsured residents as they navigate the health and social service systems.

Other organizations receiving grants include ARTS by the People, Morristown Medical Center Foundation, Summit Speech School, Imagine, Good Grief, Center for Hope Hospice, St. Joseph Social Service Center, Community FoodBank of NJ, Boy Scouts of America Patriots’ Path Council, Summit Chorale, and Summit Area YMCA.

In 2020, The Summit Foundation’s support totaled $1.2 million, including $100,000 in emergency grants to help organizations respond to COVID-19 restrictions, $665,000 in competitive grants to 34 local nonprofits, $50,000 in college scholarships for local high school students, and more than $385,000 through donor advised and community pass through funds.

“So many of our community’s nonprofit organizations have struggled during the past year. With ongoing support from our donors, we are proud to assist them in serving area residents, particularly those facing unprecedented pandemic-related challenges,” said Julie Keenan, president of The Summit Foundation.

The Summit Foundation fosters philanthropy by identifying local needs and offering donors flexible ways to make a difference in the lives of their neighbors. Since 2010, it has awarded $6 million through more than 430 competitive grants to tax-exempt organizations that serve the area.
