Firefighters Spread Holiday Cheer at Overlook Hospital
The Summit Fire Department and its FMBA Local 54 members escorted Santa Claus to Overlook Medical Center for an annual Christmas Eve visit with pediatric floor patients.
On the morning of Christmas Eve, Summit firefighters contact the pediatric floor to determine how many presents are needed for children that have been admitted to the hospital. Once they have a list, firefighters shop for and wrap presents. Santa Claus joins the firefighters to help spread some Christmas joy and gifts to hospitalized children.
“The Summit Fire Department appreciates the doctors, nurses and medical center staff who help to make these special holiday visits possible,” explains Fire Chief Eric Evers. “Summit FD has been participating in this event for the past 31 years, and it is a highlight of the holidays for us all.”
