Blueberry Pie a la Mode Takes First Place at Summit Farmers Market Berry Pie Contest
Summit Downtown, Inc. (SDI) hosted its first Sunday Funday of the year at the Summit Farmers Market on Sunday, June 23, 2019. Eight bakers entered their pies!
Judges Amy Currie, Jeff Hunter, and Beth Little were challenged to rate each pie in the Berry Pie Contest on its crust, filling and appearance. Amy Currie is a seasoned food stylist, recipe developer, and culinary producer. Jeff Hunter is the pastry chef at Winberie’s, and Beth Little is a SDI Trustee and Summit Common Council member.
Paige Schleimer was awarded first prize for her delicious Blueberry Pie accompanied by her homemade Vanilla Bean Ice Cream. Paige loves baking and is a local resident; go to summitdowntown.org for her award winning recipe. Second Place was given to Mary Vincento for her Triple Berry Crumble Pie and Bill Hornbake’s Raspberry Sour Cream Pie was awarded third prize.
There will be two other Sunday Funday Contests during the season: The Annual Apple Pie Contest on Sunday, September 29 and the Pumpkin Bread/Muffin Contest on Sunday, November 10. The market is run by Summit Downtown, Inc. and is located in Park & Shop Lot #2, at the corner of DeForest Avenue and Maple Street. The market is open 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. every Sunday, rain or shine, through November 24.
