Students in Mrs.DeMaio’s 2nd grade class from St. Theresa School in Kenilworth recently enjoyed a tour of the Historical Nitschke House in Kenilworth. They toured the garden showcasing colorful rainbow corn and gigantic cabbage along with a garden of herbs and spices. The Teaching Garden which was funded by a grant from Merck Foundation was the highlight of the visit. Mrs. DeMaio is teaching her students all about the Native Americans and the “Three Sister Way” of planting beans,squash and corn.
Mrs. Shirley Maxwell and Mrs.Shari Combs- Tlack greeted the students in full costume and spoke to the students about the living conditions during the late 19th century. The children were all presented with a small pumpkin at the end of their visit.
