Recently students in the Frank K. Hehnly School participated in the American Heart Association’s Jump Rope for Heart Campaign. During physical education classes, the students learned how their heart worked and how to care for their heart through healthy exercise and proper nutrition. The students then joined together and raised over $5,000 for the American Heart Association (AHA), with Paul DeGregorio, a first grade student, raising the most money.
“This year marks the tenth year that Hehnly School has been participating in this very special community service program,” explained Donna Kircher, School Nurse and one of the program’s organizers. “Hehnly students joined millions of other students around the country to raise funds for the American Heart Association to increase research and the advancement of various treatments.”
In addition, the AHA awarded Hehnly School’s physical education department with $300 in gift cards to be used for the purchase of equipment to help students maintain a healthy heart through physical activity.
“This is one of the most successful fundraisers that our school holds each year,” added Mrs. Kircher. “It’s a great way to allow children to get involved in raising money for a wonderful organization, while at the same time working on keeping fit.”
