Contraction Surgery
The 1st and 2nd grades at St. Theresa School in Kenilworth recently operated on bones in their makeshift operating room. Teachers Michele Keating and Karen DeMaio set up the classroom as a surgery center and the young doctors had to perform a contraction-ectomy by letter removal, and apostrophe placement. The word surgeon had to cut the bone (words) in the correct place and replace them with a bandaid (apostrophe). The children had a fun and learning experience about contractions.
