Protect Our First Responders – Slow Down and Move Over

Slow Down, Move Over Campaign

The Retired Policemen and Firemen’s Association, Local 3 of Union/Somerset Counties (NJRPFA), is helping NJSP and the NJ Department of Transportation (NJDOT)  to promote this important Safety Issue to help protect our First Responders. 41 Emergency First responders were struck and killed by motor vehicles in 2022. When you see flashing lights ahead, please, “Slow Down and Move Over”, stated Local 3 President, retired Police Chief Kenneth Grady.

NJ StateTrooper Marc Castellano who was killed by a speeding vehicle on June 6, 2010, while assisting during a roadside investigation. His mother, Donna Setaro has made it her life’s mission to share the Slow Down, Move Over message with the public.  Local 3 will assist in this program in memory of her son and many other NJSP Troopers and local Police Officers who were struck and killed by speeding vehicles while working our busy roads and Highways in the State of New Jersey.

New Jersey is a leading State in Traffic Incident Management (TIM) responder training provided by NJDOT. It brings Police, Firefighters, medical personnel, transportation, towing, and other incident responders together to engage in interactive, hands-on incident resolution exercises. In New Jersey, more than 20,000 first responders have completed NJDOT’s TIM training.
