Chatham Emergency Squad Welcomes Its Newest Cadet Class

The Chatham Emergency Squad, an all-volunteer first aid emergency services providing pre-hospital care to residents and visitors of the Chathams, is delighted to announce it has accepted the applications of six highly motivated and impressive students to join its membership base as part of its cadet EMT training program, effective June 23, 2019.

Chosen from a field of highly qualified and passionate applicants, the cadets include:

Hailey Baumgardner, Chatham High School

Sam Cooperman, Chatham High School

Tanay Malla, Chatham High School

Claire Silverstein, Chatham High School

Amelie Srinivas, Chatham High School

Mary Kate Vowells, Oak Knoll School of the Holy Child

The new cadet class will begin their Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) training upon the completion of their Sophomore year and spend their Junior and Senior years of high school helping residents in need as part of an active weekly crew, either after school or during the early part of the evening shifts. They join 5 other returning cadets who will be entering their senior year of high school to make up the full cadet program. These members include Caroline Hannon, who attends Mount St. Mary’s Academy, Peter Hughes, Mikayla Meyler, Katie O’Malley and Ivan Rozhkov, all of whom attend Chatham High School.

“This is an outstanding program which teaches life-saving skills and provides hands-on experience to students, and we are thrilled to have these exceptionally bright, motivated individuals join the squad,” said Nicole DiMaggio, Cadet Manager for the Chatham Emergency Squad. “They stood out for their remarkable maturity and record of accomplishments, and we look forward to them making a positive impact within the Chatham community.”

The Chatham Emergency Squad is an all-volunteer organization funded almost exclusively by donations. CES never charges for its services. In 2018 they responded to over 1,200 emergency calls and provided free training in CPR to more than 400 residents, teachers, coaches and emergency personnel.
