On Sunday July 10th, more than 75 guests attended a sign dedication ceremony in front of Temple Beth O’r Beth Torah, 111 Valley Road, in Clark, New Jersey.

The Synagogue’s new sign is dedicated to honor the memory of longtime temple members and community leaders, Alan and Judy Rubin. Alan, an electrical engineer by profession, served as president of Temple Beth Torah in the late 1960’s, for a period as President of the Jewish Horizon newspaper, and as a campaign chair for Jewish Federation of Central New Jersey. Judy was an active supporter of Beth Torah’s Sisterhood, the Torah Fund of United Synagogue’s Women’s League, and the youth group USY. They were married 61 years and leave behind children active in Beth O’r Beth Torah, as well as two married grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Mindy Leibowitz spoke at the ceremony and was joined at the ceremony by sister Laurie Rubin, husband Ed and all of of the Rubin’s children and grandchildren. They were overwhelmed by the outpouring of enthusiasm for the dedication. Laurie and Mindy shared, “Our parents would have been humbled by the outpouring of love and emotion by people attending the ceremony. They would have appreciated that their efforts were bringing attention to our vibrant Jewish community”.

The sign dedication coincides with major renovations at the Clark synagogue, including new lighting and significant security upgrades. Driving down Valley Road one can see the new, recently completed landscaping.

The Conservative synagogue is led by its Spiritual Leader Rabbi Steven Stern who is also a professionally trained Cantor. A new slate of lay leaders was recently installed led by co-presidents Fern Cammy and Jonathan Phillips. The synagogue is a vibrant center of Jewish life in Central New Jersey, noted for its warm and welcoming inclusivity, uplifting religious services and educational programs for children and adults.
