The Mountainside Active Retirees will be hosting Saul Broudy from the New Jersey Council for the Humanities at their November 15th meeting at 10am in the upstairs Community room at the Mountainside Municipal Hall. 1285 Route 22 . Mountainside, NJ.
Before modern mass media and widespread literacy, workers in various occupations made their own songs to express emotions, convey information, tell stories, solidify group identity and help them make it through the day. Through live performances, Saul Broudy presents the songs of railroad workers, coal miners, farmers, hobos, truck-drivers, and other workers and discusses the role this music played in the workers lives. All retirees are welcome to come to this meeting and hear Saul Broudy performing “Singing Workers: American Occupational Folksongs”.
