Senior Citizen Prom
Clark Public Schools
For high school seniors across the state, the months of May and June bring with them evenings of dancing, dressing up, and food. However, on May 19th at Arthur L. Johnson High School, over 75 senior citizens from the local community attended a Senior Citizen Prom sponsored by the ALJ Key Club and the Kiwanis Club of Clark. The theme was “Casino Night,” and the attendees were dressed to the nines!
The event was held in the high school cafeteria, and it was free for all attendees thanks to donations and sponsorships from various local businesses including Bistro 1051, Acme, Clark Unico, ShopRite, Breadsmith, Starbucks, Dinny’s Diners, and Pinho’s Bakery. The ALJ Key Club was also able to raffle off nearly 25 gift baskets to the attendees thanks to the generosity of community members and ALJ families.
“We would not have been able to pull off this event without the help and support of our community, students’ families, and other staff members,” said ALJ school counselor and Key Club Advisor, Meghan Bradley. “The students were so excited to be able to give back to our seniors, especially after a hiatus of the event due to COVID.”
The evening included food, music, and lots of dancing, thanks to DJ Danny McCaffery (“DJ Danny Mac”), a 2021 ALJ alum. There was a conga line, Frank Sinatra tributes, and a Prom King and Queen crowning and dance! According to Meghan Bradley, “The Key Clubbers really enjoyed setting up for the event, serving food, and most importantly, interacting with and dancing with the seniors. A special shout out to Mrs. Ellen Zamboni, ALJ school counselor and previous Key Club Advisor, and her family for helping us tremendously with preparing for the event and assisting on the day of.” The ALJ Key Club is already looking forward to next year’s event!
