Senior Center of the Chathams September 2023

The following are some of the events the Senior Center of the Chathams have scheduled for September. All require registration by calling the Senior Center at 973-635-4565.

Beginner Mah Jongg Lessons, Fridays, starting September 8, 1:00 PM. This is a free class but a 2023 Mah Jongg card must be purchased ($15). Cards may be pre-ordered at the Center or purchased on-line. at nationalmahjonggleague.org/store.

Playwriting, Acting, Directing & Design Class – Part II. Five Tuesdays starting September 12, 10:00AM-Noon. This is the second part of the free performing arts program made possible by a grant from The Grotta Foundation for Older Adults. This segment focuses on developing and performing short scenes.

The Importance of Estate Planning, Wednesday, September 13, 12:30 PM – Bob Murray, The Murray Firm LLC, will discuss the importance of wills, power of attorney, healthcare directives, living wills, and trusts. Light lunch served; limited seating.

The Beach Boys Story, Friday, September 15, 1:00 PM. Learn about one of the most influential bands of the Rock Era from Vincent Bruno, 60s Rock Historian.

Live Author Reading of “12 Blocks: Neighborhood Stories of the 60s” – Wednesday, September 20, 1:00 PM. Author Sam Pagano’s book is about his childhood experiences growing up in East Newark. His stories have been published in The Star Ledger, The Daily Record, and Reminisce Magazine.

Fall Prevention Day, Friday, September 22, 11:00 AM. Learn how to prevent falls and modify the home to reduce the risks of falling. Attendees may also participate in balance and gait testing. Light lunch provided; limited seating.

The Infinite Variety of Shakespeare’s Women, Friday, September 29, 1:00 PM. Ellen Barry, Actress and past Producing Director, The New Jersey Shakespeare Festival. The presentation covers 8 characters from Shakespeare’s ingenues, to his leading ladies, comic bawds, and finally, to Margaret from Richard III. Program is 20% lecture and 80% performance.
