Scotch Plains Police Department Hiring Recently Retired Police

The Township of Scotch Plains Police Department is accepting applications for the position of Class III Special Police Officer. The Class III Special Police Officer, under the direction of the Chief of Police, shall conduct school safety and security duties as directed by the Chief of Police. The Scotch Plains Police Department is also looking to hire Class II SLEO to be used to fill in for Class III officers when they are unable to work and also for covering side details if they are not able to be filled by active officers. One Class II will be allowed to work up to 40 hrs./week and the rest will be restricted to 20 hrs./week. Both positions pay $30 per hour.

Minimum Qualifications
The applicant must:
• Be a resident of the State of New Jersey during his or her term of appointment to this position.
• Be able to read, write, and speak the English language with reasonable proficiency and possess a High School diploma or equivalent.
• Be sound in body and of good health which must be certified by a physician licensed to practice in the State of New Jersey, as well as pass a psychological examination.
• Be of good moral character and must not have been convicted of any offense involving dishonesty as would make the applicant unfit to perform his or her duties.
• The applicant must be a retired law enforcement officer in any municipality or county of this state, or as a member of the State Police, and was separated from that prior service in good standing within five years of appointment to this position, as of July 1, 2018 (after July 1, 2018 must be retired within the last three years).
• The applicant must be physically capable of performing the functions of the position in accordance with the Police Training Commission (PTC).
• The applicant must possess a NJ Police Training Commission Basic Police Officer Certification or NJ State Police Academy Certification. (Note: We will be able to assist in filing for the waiver from the PTC for this position; Form PTC-15 Request for Waiver of Training Form and the NONA (Notice of New Appointment Form) must be filled out and approved.)
• The applicant must possess a valid New Jersey Driver’s License.
• The applicant must successfully pass a background investigation
• Must also pass a Drug Test pursuant to Attorney General’s Law Enforcement Drug Testing Policy.
• The officer must be willing to complete School Resource Officer (SRO) training
