Students in both third and fourth grade at School Number 2, in Linden, were learning about figures of speech during the first week of January. Students in Miss. Jennifer Bartolomeo’s third grade class learned about the differences between literal and figurative language. Students in Ms. Nicole Loftus’ fourth grade class were learning about idioms.
After students in both classes learned about literal language, figurative language, and idioms; the classes came together to play a game in teams of two. The students played a concentration style game by matching the figurative language or idiom to the real meaning.
By bringing the two classes together, the students created new friendships and were able to assist each other in turn taking. The students were enjoying themselves all while being challenged academically. Both the students and the teachers had an exciting day coming together!
