This year the David Brearley “Bruins that Care” conducted its most successful food drive to benefit local families. Under the direction of the club’s advisor, Mrs Diana Westbrook, the David Brearly Middle School students gathered 17 full boxes of food to donate to the 15th annual 911 Memorial Food Drive. Two students that were instrumental in the efforts were 7th grader Isabela Russo Diuro and the Club President, 8th grader Michael Padula.
Isabela is a 7th grader who is off to a great start at the David Brearly Middle School. She is a focused student who always tries her best. Her respect for her classmates is evident, showing help whenever it is needed. Due to her dedicated nature to help other, Isabela was able to procure and donate 9 bags of food to the Bruins that care 911 food drive. This is a true showcase of her generosity, kindness, school spirit, and overall care for those in need. Isabela is already looking forward to the next community outreach project to show her support and continue giving back to the Kenilworth Community.
8th grader Michael Padula is this year’s president of the Bruins that Care and oversaw the majority of donations made for the food drive. Michael was instrumental in promoting the food drive, raising awareness in school, and monitoring the donations. Michael is a hardworking and dedicated member of the David Brearley’s Scholarship Academy. Michael is active in many clubs, and other community service projects in Kenilworth. Michael has been described by one of his teachers as having a “heart of gold” and is always willing to help other before himself. Michael has been a valued member of the Bruins that Care for the last two years and has participated in other food drives, community service projects and opportunities, including events at the Senior Citizens Center.
