On March 13, 2017 at 2229hrs., Cranford Police Department Communications Officer Kyle McCartney received a 911 Call from a Hillcrest Avenue man stating his wife was in labor. Officer Gregory Federici was the first to arrive on scene, and determined that Gina Petrillo-Medler’s water had broken. With the assistance of Gina’s husband, Kase Medler, and Officers Ryan Gerrity and Brian Trotter, Officer Federici was able to successfully deliver a 7 pound 13 ounce baby boy, Kasey Thomas Medler at 2238hrs.
The mother and baby were transported to an area hospital for evaluation, and are in good health. Chief James Wozniak stated, “These types of calls are not a common occurrence, but the Officer’s training and instincts kicked in, making for a successful outcome.”
