Celebrating 40 years of service to NJ kids and families
ECF was founded 40 years ago by Susan and Joseph Vizzoni, a New Jersey couple whose lives were turned upside down by their son’s cancer battle and the enormous emotional and financial hardships that ensued. In 1983, two years after Emmanuel’s death, the Vizzoni family established ECF to give back to other families experiencing the same pain and offer services that made a vital difference in their daily lives. Based on their passionate vision, today ECF is committed to being a beacon of light for New Jersey families facing pediatric cancer.
More than 280 families receive free emotional and advocacy support by professional caseworkers, material donations such as food, clothing, toys, household items and birthday and holiday gifts, and emergency financial assistance. Nearly 60 % of ECF families live below the poverty level, and a cancer diagnosis only exacerbates precarious financial situations and increases already sky high stress. Leslie and her mom got their own ECF Caseworker who offered counseling, help with household bills, supplies to celebrate Leslie’s birthday, and money for the mom’s meals while Leslie was in the hospital. Services are tailored to a family’s unique needs, and ECF will stay by their side for as long as needed, whether one month or 10 years.
Do you know a family who is in need of our services? Please refer them to us because we can do so much to lift their burdens and guide them through their cancer ordeals. Our help begins with the first phone call. Our only requirements is that the child be 18 or under and live in the state of New Jersey. Visit emmanuelcancer.org for more information.
