After a successful career working as a staff assistant for the City of Worcester and then for Allmerica Financial/Hanover Insurance, where she rose to the position of Vice-President, Corporate and Human Services and Vice-President, Class Action Administrator at Allmerica Financial/Hanover Insurances, joined the Peace Corps at age seventy and was assigned to serve in Uganda.
After twelve weeks of extensive training, learning the language, culture, economic and community development, Fleming left with a group of approximately fifty others to serve a two-year commitment in southwest Uganda.
During the course of her service in Uganda, Fleming used her extensive business skills to oversee projects focused on empowering girls and women. Her presentation will focus on her experiences in the Peace Corps and two of the important projects that she was instrumental in developing. The projects create a model for sustainability and income opportunity which has helped to empower the girls and women of Uganda.
