Tuesday Night Movies:
Testament of Youth (2015) will be shown on October 3. Testament of Youth is a powerful story of love, war and remembrance, based on the First World War memoir by Vera Brittain, which has become the classic testimony of that war from a woman’s point of view. A searing journey from youthful hopes and dreams to the edge of despair and back again, it’s a film about young love, the futility of war and how to make sense of the darkest times (PG-13). Loving (2016) will be screened on October 10. The story of Richard and Mildred Loving, a couple whose arrest for interracial marriage in 1960s Virginia began a legal battle that would end with the Supreme Court’s historic 1967 decision (PG-13). Norman (2017) is our offering on October 17. Persistent wheeler-dealer Norman (Richard Gere) falls in with an Israeli politician (Lior Ashkenazi) on the rise. When the politician is elected prime minister, Norman rises in esteem with the New York Jewish community, even though his social connections might only be a sham (R). Showtime for each movie is 6:30 PM. (There will be no movie shown on October 24 and October 31 due to the Friends Book Sale.)

“Saturday Musical Getaways: Halloween Show”
Saturday, October 14, 2:00-3:00 PM.
Gerard and Diane Barros, of “One Fine Tapestry: A Carol King Tribute” fame, return to the Library for a special fall-themed show. Gerard and Diane are a unique husband and wife keyboard and guitar duo, specializing in 2-part harmonies. With an “old school duo” approach to playing instruments and singing live, this versatile pair of musicians provide great entertainment for children and adults. Their Halloween show is a fun mix of Halloween classics and “non-conventional” golden oldies related to Halloween traditions. They will be covering songs by such artists as the Classics IV (“Spooky”), Ella Fitzgerald, Juice Newton, Warren Zevon (“Werewolves of London”), Annie Lennox, Bobby “Boris” Pickett (“Monster Mash”) and, of course, the Zombies.
