Congregation Beth Israel in Scotch Plains collected approximately 75 winter coats, which were donated to the non-profit community-based organization, Jersey Cares, for distribution to men, women and children in need throughout the state.
Volunteers from the synagogue’s Social Action Committee conducted a month-long coat drive collection and seventh-grade Religious School students helped with the out reach project on December 2by sorting and bagging coats. The students also wrote warm greetings and drew uplifting pictures to be left as “a note in the coat” in the pockets of outerwear going to children. Congregation Beth Israel’s Social Action Committee sponsors a wide range of activities throughout the year to help people in need in Scotch Plains and surrounding communities.
