On June 6, 2016, the North Plainfield Optimist club honored some of our High School Athletes with dinner and recognition at Vermule Community Center. These Athletes were chosen by the coaches of all of the North Plainfield Varsity teams. The basis for these selections was the portrayal of positivity and optimism towards their team mates and coaches as well as in their own lives. Or more specifically they embodied the Optimist Creed.
This year the coaches chose: Rover Brito-Eusebio- Cross Country; Emily McGrath-Girls Tennis; Tiffany Mercuri-Varsity Cheerleading ;Jasmine Chavez- Girls Soccer; Jasmine Okolo- Field Hockey; Kevin Andrade- Boys Tennis; Jordan Sample- Girls Track and Field and Winter Track; Arthur Gilmore-Football; Ceisean Tucker- Grimes-Baseball; Nikita Forrester-Girls Basketball; Denilson Abreu-Boys Soccer; Kyle Funelas- Boys Track and Field; Eric Pettiford- Boys Basketball; Christian Velasco-Wrestling ;Molly Appezatto-Softball.
The Parents, Student Athletes and Coaches, were honored to have one of their own North Plainfield alumni and coaches, Mr. Jimmy DiPaolo spoke on the importance of optimism and teamwork in their lives now and for the future. He discussed his own challenges and how he overcame them and moved on to accomplish his own goals.
The North Plainfield Optimist Club is a service organization that focuses on the youth in our area. Other events recently held for students were our annual essay contest and our young orator competition and new this year was our Super Hero lunch. The club hosts many fundraisers and other community based events throughout the year. The Optimist Creed Promise yourself-
To be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind.
To talk health, happiness and prosperity to every person you meet.
To make all your friends feel that there is something in them.
To think only of the best, to work only for the best and expect only the best.
To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own.
To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future.
To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature you meet a smile.
To give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others.
To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear, and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.
