The Clark Volunteer Emergency Squad received a generous donation from New Jersey American Water. David Newby, Treasurer of the squad, applied for one of New Jersey American Water’s 2022 Volunteer Firefighter and EMS Grants. Applications are scrutinized by a committee of New Jersey American Water employees who are all experienced volunteer firefighters and EMTs from around the state. Kristin Bianco, the Major Account Manager, notified Newby that The Clark Volunteer Emergency Squad was chosen to receive one of the grants.

“That is great news”, said Newby.

The squad is experiencing a financial crisis and this grant has given the squad a much needed infusion. As expenses increase, donations have decreased. The squad relies on donations to continue functioning in a way the residents have come to expect. The pandemic caused a significant increase in costs. The squad kept answering the needs of residents and others traveling to the township. This required more protective equipment to keep members and patients safe. It also required frequent cleansing of the ambulances and the building. These expenses were all in addition to the normal day-to-day operating expenses.

Donations can be made by sending a check to The Clark Volunteer Emergency Squad at 875 Raritan Road, Clark, New Jersey 07066.
