Bash the Trash! (All Ages)
October 2 at 12:00 Noon
Join us on the Library front lawn for Bash the Trash! This is a fun performance combining science, sound and sustainability, featuring instruments made from trash. Wander over before or after you visit the Freecycle event at the American Legion next door and enjoy this musical performance while learning how the instruments were upcycled from regular household trash. This event is open to all ages. In case of rain, the show will move to the Municipal Center gym.
Mindful Movement (Adults)
October 5 at 9:30 a.m.
Local qigong instructor Rose Wippich will guide you through a series of mindful movements in this outdoor class. You’ll leave class feeling physically enriched, positive and peaceful. No equipment is needed, but you may want to bring a water bottle. Registration is required. Emailrsvp@newprovidencelibrary.org to register.
Housel Fun & Fitness Dance Party Mix (Kids)
October 5 at 4:45 p.m.
Enjoy an afternoon of fun and movement outside on the lawn with Housel Fun & Fitness! Dances are teacher-led, age-appropriate and include a lot of props and surprises! Our fitness games and dance activities are interactive and designed to make kids feel better about themselves regardless of ability or experience levels. Email npmlchildrens@gmail.com to register. Storytime on the Lawn with Ms. Cathy (Kids)
October 7 at 10 a.m.
Join Ms. Cathy on the front lawn for outdoor storytime. We’ll read some stories, do some rhymes and learn some sign language! Email npmlchildrens@gmail.com to register. Masks required for children ages 5 + and adults.
Kindness Rocks (Adults)
October 8 at 10 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
Help replenish the kindness rock garden that Girl Scout Troop 40140 created earlier this year in front of the library, or hide your rock elsewhere in New Providence to raise someone’s spirits! Stop by the library lawn between 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. to paint a kindness rock or rocks in this outdoor adult craft. Rain date: October 15. First come, first served, while supplies last.
Virtual Club Phoenix (Kids)
October 11 at 3:30 p.m.
Club Phoenix is online! In this program kids will learn about science, engineering, and logical thinking. Watch a variety of cool science experiments and learn how you can do them at home! This program is run by teen volunteers, who are passionate about sharing their love of science and STEM with younger children. YA Battle of the Books! (Teens)
October 11-15
We’re going to pit the best of recent YA Fiction books against each other and old favorites in our second annual YA Battle of the Books! Stay tuned to Instagram, Twitter and Facebook for instructions on how to vote for your favorites each day. We’ll bring a bracket-style tournament to narrow down the top 32 YA books to one winner. Will last year’s “The Book Thief” reign again? Or will we see a new favorite title emerge? Share your voice and VOTE!!
Baseball Discussion Group (All Ages)
October 11 at 7 p.m. – 9 p.m.
You’re invited to discuss baseball teams, players and issues of the sport with other baseball fans over zoom. Children with a guardian are welcome to join this group of mostly seniors who have been meeting monthly for several years. Join us outside on the lawn and view mountains & craters on the Moon in a big telescope. View Jupiter’s clouds and moons, as well as Saturn and its rings. Email npmlchildrens@gmail.com to register. College Admissions 101 (High School students)
October 19 at 5:30 p.m.
This seminar will help families separate college admissions fact from fiction and enjoy the college process a little more. We’ll discuss grades, test scores, activities, and everything else colleges evaluate. Attendees will get straight answers about what college admissions committees really look for and how they ultimately decide who gets in. We think kids and parents will be pleasantly surprised to learn that kids don’t have to be trilingual, opera-singing rocket scientists to get into college today. Ready or Not: Preparing for the Unexpected (Adults)
October 21 at 7 p.m. – 8 p.m.
Financial advisor Brian Killea shares tips on how to develop a proactive strategy for protection and preparing for the unexpected. After spending 20 years with JPMorgan, Citibank and BNY Mellon, Brian left Wall Street for EdwardJones, where he partners with families and individuals to meet their financial goals. Author Read Aloud with Danielle Gasalberti (All Ages)

Local author, Danielle Gasalberti, will read aloud her Children’s book Love Your Selfie on the library front lawn. Danielle has a background in psychology and currently works as a school psychologist in a Therapeutic School for students with behavioral disabilities. She was inspired to write this book to shed a positive light on empowering our younger generation to embrace themselves as they are! Email npmlchildrens@gmail.com to register. Teen Take Out is a monthly box of fun for NP teens in grades 6-12 with a current NPML library card. Each month, we put together a box for you including fun treats like snacks, crafts, bookmarks, buttons, stickers and more. Plus, we select a YA Fiction book for you based on your answers to our questionnaire! Use our Google form to sign up for the Nov box on Oct 25.
