Community Photography Show
Submitted by Denise Moser, Art Curator for FNPML
The Friends of the New Providence Memorial Library are excited to announce our community exhibit which features the photographic talents and the incredible travels and explorations of our local residents. We were thrilled with the overwhelming response of applicants with over 70 entries from over 22 photographers in New Providence and our surrounding towns.
The photos on the walls of the main library and the Conti Family Community Room present a wonderful reflection of where our local residents have been. They share visions of their experiences and explorations of many cultures, landscapes, encounters with wildlife, and architecture from all over the world. The exhibition provides a glimpse into cultural events such as an Indian pre-wedding ritual in Mumbai, or taking a boat ride up a river along Bangladesh, views of a Bali fish market and Hindu priests in an Assam temple.
Walking through the exhibit, you will seephotos that capture many moods and colors, with a range of dramatic landscapes from Iceland, the Florida Keys, the southwest deserts, and the exciting rock formations of the Arizona canyons. You will also step inside the architectural wonders of the Alhambra, the Cathedral of Notre-Dame, and the Tower Bridge of London, visit an amusement park in Australia and share a safari in India, where you are surprised bythe rare sight of a One-Horned Rhino eating breakfast in the morning light. Additionally, the glass cabinet near the front wall holdslibrary staff travel souvenirs in June, and will be switched to Friends’ souvenirs for July.
The artists who contributed to this exhibit are: Malathi Ananthakrishnan, Courtney Bearns, Sangeeta Prasad Benbow, Lynn Celler, William Dreitlein, Michelle Ferlise, Joel Francisco, Rupa Kale, Matthew Monahan, Denise Moser, Lois Puttbach, Bharat Rao, Shami Tilwali Rao, Elizabeth Spiegel, Perry Spiegel, Gerald Vogel, Louise Wheeler, and Donna Zane.
The exhibit is open until Thursday, July 27th.
The exhibit can be viewed on the NPML gallery website, at https://sites.google.com/view/newprovidencelibrarygallery/travels-and-explorations-photo-exhibit
