The National Merit Scholarship Program has announced that two Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School seniors, Shona Jain and Daniel Zheng, are Finalists in the 2016 Competition for National Merit Scholarships.
This is one of the most coveted honors that can be bestowed on a high school student and is shared by less than 1% of graduating seniors. To qualify as a National Merit Scholarship Finalists, the National Merit Scholarship Corporation reviews each student’s academic record, information about the school’s curricula and grading system, two sets of test scores, the high school official’s written recommendation, information about the student’s activities and leadership, and the Finalist’s own essay.
