Students Honor Warren Township Police Department
Warren Public Schools
Mt. Horeb students from Michelle McMahon’s and Carla Annese’s third grade classes personally designed celebratory cards for the Warren Township Police Department (WTPD) in honor of the station’s 50th anniversary.
On April 6, 1972, the Warren Township Police Department officially opened its doors to the community. Before the township police department was established, Warren was patrolled by state police.
To celebrate the milestone anniversary, the WTPD officers will be wearing commemorative hats and two cruisers will be decked out with a retro design from the 1970’s. Also, all police vehicles will be outfitted with magnets memorializing the anniversary.
On the afternoon of January 10, 2022, the students from Mt. Horeb School got the opportunity to present Sergeant Ronald C. Roselli and Officer Luke Masterson with the special cards they had been working on.
Student volunteers stood up in front of their classes and read their cards directly to Roselli and Masterson. The children shared their appreciation for the police by describing scenarios when officers had been most helpful to them. For example, one student thanked the officers for their efforts to keep the town safe by enforcing safe driving rules. Another student acknowledged the police department’s help when a home alarm was accidentally set off.
Before departing from each class, Roselli and Masterson invited the students to ask them questions about their jobs. Hands were immediately raised with excitement. One student asked the officers how they know to help someone who can’t communicate their desire for help whereas another student asked how officers can assist with lost dogs! Officer Masterson answered both questions thoughtfully and thoroughly for the students to understand.
Sergeant Roselli invited the students to a future Open House at the Police Department. Although the date is under consideration, Roselli did indicate that students would have the opportunity to see the police station and vehicles. Roselli even promised to display the special cards they had received.
McMahon and Annese are proud of their students for bringing smiles to the gentleman’s faces. The Sergeant pointed out that the Mt. Horeb students were the only kids in town so far to help them celebrate their 50th anniversary with special cards!
