Mountainside Historic Committee Announces 2016 Activities And Events & May 1st Founders’ Festival During their annual
reorganization meeting, held on January 13, the all-volunteer Mountainside Restoration Committee set their tentative calendar of events for 2016. The committee’s events are planned and designed to share the rich heritage of Mountainside with the community and to raise funds toward the maintenance and restoration of the Deacon Andrew Hetfield House (circa 1760) and the Levi Cory House (circa 1812).
Among the 2016 events, was the recent Colonial Dinner held at the Hetfield House on February 26th where 16 lucky individuals enjoyed an authentic colonial 5-course dinner held at the historic Deacon Andrew Hetfield House. Dinner guests also enjoyed a demonstration of colonial cooking in the 18th Century hearth and a dessert-time talk on tea in Colonial times.

• April 1 –Newsletter mailing and fund raising letter featuring the opportunity to vote on the paint color for the Levi Cory house which is
being restored. All Mountainside addresses should receive this mailing.
• April 28 – May 1 — Geranium and Spring Plant Sale
• May 1 – Mountainside Founders’ Festival and Spring Cleaning Swap Meet (details following)
• June 11 – Tour of Mountainside’s Gardens
• Sept 15-17 –Mum and Fall Plant Sale

MOUNTAINSIDE FOUNDERS’ FESTIVAL AND SPRING CLEANING SWAP MEET
The first MOUNTAINSIDE FOUNDERS’ FESTIVAL AND SPRING CLEANING SWAP MEET will take place on Sunday, May 1, 2016 from 11am-4pm and will be held on Constitution Plaza in Mountainside. This festive event will feature fun for all including historic games of chance, amusements, chicken plop bingo, entertainment, food, refreshments and much more. In addition, the festival will feature a “Spring Cleaning Swap Meet” where families, groups and individuals are encouraged to rent a table and swap or sell their spring clean-out items or any other items which might interest the crowd. These items might include crafts, merchandise, jewelry, baked goods, clothing, household items, videos, toys, etc. So, mark your calendars and watch for more news on participation opportunities for the Founders’ Festival. Vendors and sponsors are welcome.
The Deacon Andrew Hetfield House and Levi Cory House are located at Constitution Plaza adjacent to the Mountainside Library. Constitution Plaza is the first right off Birch Hill Road which is off New Providence Road near the Mountainside Volunteer Fire House. The Mountainside Restoration Committee is a committee of volunteers governed by the Borough of Mountainside whose purpose is to restore and maintain the Deacon Andrew Hetfield House and the Levi Cory House.
