MIRACLES FOR MYELOMA 5K RUN IN OAK RIDGE

The Annual Miracles for Myeloma 5K Run/Walk in Clark will be held this year on Saturday, September 24, 2016. One of the organizers explains what keeps hundreds of participants coming back to help raise money for a little known disease. “It’s her strength and fortitude that inspire so many of us,” Ron Pask said of his wife Sheree Pask who is in remission of multiple myeloma, a rare form of cancer.
The husband and wife duo from Clark, with friend Gina Klemm of Westfield, have been the originators and driving force behind the event that is having its fourth anniversary. Ms. Klemm’s brother, Frank Guardino, succumbed from myeloma five years ago.
The race begins at 9:30 a.m. at Oak Ridge Park in Clark with check-in beginning at 8 a.m. In the last three years, the event has raised over $275,000 in the pursuit of the cure for the disease. Registration and additional information for the event are available at miracles4mm@comcast.net.
The USTAF certified race is held at the park that has wheelchair friendly tree-lined paths. Post-race refreshments, giveaways and acknowledgements will follow. “There are a number of ways to get involved,” says Mr. Pask, “even if you aren’t able to participate through walking or running.”
A balloon-lined Remembrance Path features signs that can be purchased for $25 each in honor or in memory of someone. Businesses may purchase ad space placed at the water stations, mile markers or start or finish lines where their logos will be displayed prominently. Additionally, donations of any amount may be given online through the website. For additional information about registration fees or the event in general, call at 732-574-9182.
As in years past, the Arthur L. Johnson High School Key Club, under the direction of Clark Kiwanis member and Key Club adviser Ellen Zamboni will be on hand to face paint, pass out water and assist with the setup of the Remembrance Path.
