Read to Win! Every week you get a chance to win a gift card to a local spot in town OR a prize basket. The more you read, the better your chances. Reviews earn you extra raffle tickets (yes, please!) Tickets can be used in any of the weekly raffles. 

ADULTS

Ages 18 and up

Summer reading is not just for kids! Join our annual challenge and earn tickets to enter fantastic prize raffles, plus a bonus gift just for signing up. The more you read, the better your chances of winning.

GETTING STARTED WITH PYTHON

Wednesdays August 2, 9, 16, 23, 2-4pm, Hybrid, Williamsburg Room

New computer programmers welcome, no experience required! Learn the fundamentals of Python in a four-part series. Students can attend in-person or watch from home on Zoom.

A BRIEF CULTURAL HISTORY OF COMIC BOOK SUPERHEROES WITH ALEXANDER CLEMENTE

Thursday, August 3, 7-8pm, Hybrid, Auditorium & Online

Superman, Batman, and Spiderman are known to people all across the globe. Of course, these heroes, as well as Wonder Woman, Captain America, and the Incredible Hulk, all sprung from American popular culture. In this lecture, we will look at how such heroes came about and why we like them so much.

MEDIUMSHIP DEMONSTRATION WITH ROSEMARIE RUBINETTI CAPPIELLO

Tuesday, August 8, 6:30-8pm, In Person, Auditorium

RoseMarie Rubinetti Cappiello, gifted medium and healer, will discuss what mediumship is: how it works and who experiences it. She will teach us about signs and dream visits from loved ones and make some Spirit connections for those in attendance.

Guest author Insha Fitzpatrick will join us to discuss their laugh-out-loud nonfiction handbook Hanging with Vampires from A Totally Factual Field Guide to the Supernatural Series. We’ll watch some related videos and have snacks. Register to pick up a copy of the book ahead of time. Registration required.

UNLIKELY FRIENDS: STORYTELLING WITH RACHAEL HARRINGTON

For ages 5 and up

Folktales from around the world come to life with Rachael Harrington! This summer she’ll tell stories that highlight the theme of unity and friendship, especially finding friendship in unlikely places. Families participate in the stories through song, rhythm, and call-and-response, and the stories encourage social emotional learning and literacy skills. Registration required.

BUBBLE BLAST

Thursday, August 17, 4-5pm, Near the Library Field

For ages up to 12

Kids, join us outside at the library for our THIRD annual Bubble Blast! Create giant bubbles using a variety of household items. Make bubbles of all shapes and sizes. See how big your bubbles can be! Program will take place in the field by the parking lot. Drop in.

TOGETHER WE DANCE: MUSIC AND MOVEMENT WITH MISS JOLIE

Friday, August 25, 4-4:45pm, Auditorium

For ages 1-6

Join us for a music and movement class for young kids that ties in songs about kindness, friendship, and unity! Miss Jolie will play the ukulele, guitar, harmonica, and incorporate various props into her fun-filled program. Registration required.

STAY & PLAY: Sensory Play

For ages 2-5 years

Children with caregivers are invited to the library to “stay and play!” Stay & Play is a program for young children using toys to encourage play with an emphasis on STEM and developmental skills. Registration required.

CRAFTERNOON

August 23, 4-5pm, Auditorium

For ages 4-12

What does crafts + afternoon equal? Why, crafternoon of course! Kids are invited to make a fun seasonal craft in the children’s room. Drop in.

TOYS SLEEPOVER

Monday, August 21 – Thursday August 31

Hey kids! Bring a lovey/stuffed animal to the library for an overnight sleepover! We will place the toys on the library bookshelves for a good night’s rest. You can pick them up the next day — or leave them for a summer sleepaway experience!

Teen Read & Review

Get service hours for doing what you love: reading! Go to millburnlibrary.org/teens to see examples and access the Google form.

Overview:

1) There is a limit of 2 review submissions per month.

2) Books must be on the student’s reading level, preferably from the Library’s Middle Grade or Young Adult collections.

3) Every 100 pages = 1 volunteer hour + 1 hour for writing the review itself
